Direct Detection of Dark Matter with DarkSide-20k

DarkSide run since mid 2015 a 50-kg-active-mass dual phase Liquid Argon Time Projection Chamber (TPC), filled with low radioactivity argon from an underground source and produced world class results for both the mass (< 20 GeV/c 2 ) high ( > 100 direct detection search dark matter. The next stage of program will be new generation experiment involving global collaboration all current based experiments. DarkSide-20k, is designed as 20-tonne fiducial TPC SiPM cryogenic photosensors, expected to free any instrumental background exposure >100 tonne year. Like its predecessor, DarkSide-20k housed at INFN Gran Sasso (LNGS) laboratory, it attain WIMP-nucleon cross section exclusion sensitivity 7.4 × 10 −48 cm WIMP 1 TeV/c in 200 t yr run. installed inside membrane cryostat containing more than 700 liquid surrounded by active neutron veto on Gd-loaded acrylic shell. talk give latest updates ongoing R&D prototype tests validating initial design. A subsequent objective, towards end decade, construction ultimate detector, ARGO, 300 push neutrino floor region WIMPs.
